Linda Jaivin in conversation with Benjamin Law, including copy of ‘Shortest History of China

July 21, 2021 @ 6:00 pm 7:00 pm AEST

On the 21st of July we are joined by Linda Jaivin and Ben Law for a tour through the vast and consequential history of China. Seen variously as an economic powerhouse, an icon of urbanisation, a propaganda state or an aggressive superpower seeking world domination, Modern China is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Linda has been studying Chinese politics, language and culture for more than forty years. She has been a foreign correspondent in China, and is co-editor of the China Story Yearbook, an associate of the Australian Centre on China in the World at the Australian National University and the author of twelve books. In The Shortest history of China, she distils a vast history into a short, readable account that tells you what you need to know, from China’s philosophical origins to its political system, to the COVID-19 pandemic and where the PRC is likely to lead the world.
